Merry Christmas All

Thank you all for your well wishes as my business takes a slightly different direction in 2012.

It has been a very busy lead up to Christmas Day and I am really looking forward to having some time with my family. To me Christmas is completely about my boys. I don't want or need presents just to see their smiling and excited faces is enough.

One of my beautiful local clients Marion made those amazing gingerbread biscuits for me, isn't she clever?
Here they are on my tree with the stunning clay tags my sister bought from Ness for the boys

Thanks to all of my local and online customers who have supported my business this year, have a wonderful, safe and happy Christmas!

Important Announcement

After careful consideration as of next year
THE WHITE SHED will operate as an online store only with the shed to become the warehouse.

Locals will be able to shop online and select local pickup and there will still be shopping events held at the shed throughout the year.

The past few years has been extremely busy and due to the huge growth of the online store,
I hope by streamlining the business I will be able to be able to operate more efficiently, have a larger range and to spend more time with my family.

Next Tuesday the 20th December will be the the final Tuesday the shed will be open from 9.30am until 2.30pm.

Apologies for the photo quality, I had to use my phone as my camera died!

Have a lovely week all.

Local Ladies Christmas Lunch

Yesterday I had seven lovely local ladies over for a rather long Christmas Lunch.

This time of year is crazy busy with harvest, the shop and children's commitments but I always think you should make the time and effort to catch up.

I have so many funny memories of yesterday!

On the menu was prawn bruschettas with avocado salsa, turkey roll with cranberry and pistachio stuffing with pumpkin, rocket and fetta salad followed by Georgie's amazing Lemon Tart and Jo's delicious truffles.

I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends and a fabulous local community to live in.

I wouldn't rather live anywhere in the world!

With the hot weather lurking I am absolutely obsessed with beautiful pool images at the moment.

Not at all a beach person and have the perfect spot in the side lawn for this!

The boys are very keen also.................just one more person to convince.

A Baby Called Max!

One of the most amazing things about blogging is the wonderful people you meet.

I recently came across the lovely Cherie of A Baby Called Max
Cherie is one of the most beautiful and honest writers I have come across.

Today Cherie has posted my business story. Please pop over and take a look.

Thanks Cherie!

PS Thanks everyone for your very kind emails, comments etc regarding Tommy's broken nose. He made me very proud this week with the doctors and X-ray and  is recovering well, just still a little sore. Back to Kindy next week he can't wait!!

Closed Tuesday

Tommy courtesy -Susan  Lemon Tree Photography

Sorry lovely locals but the ‘shed’ will not be open this Tuesday the 15th November.

My littlest lad has gone and done himself a nasty but not too serious injury so I will need to spend the week looking after him.

Thanks for your understanding and hope to see you over the coming weeks!

Shed Idea!

I came across this the other day when on Pinterest.......again.

We have a couple of old rather unattractive sheds which I think could benefit from this treatment!

Christmas is Online!

Thanks to those who left tree recommendations on my last post!

Not sure which way I am going yet but already have nearly 30 healthy Manchurian Pears around the garden so I know they grow here!

Also like the look of the Tilias and London Planes.
Unfortunately Silver Birch don't grow so well over here.

I'll keep you posted!

Christmas stock is now online at

Tree Lined Driveways

image via atlanta homes mag
This post is for my new friend Jo, who made me explore this possibility again!

An entrance says so much about what lies ahead. Beautiful gates, trees, fencing and gravel ........

We nearly planted London Plane Trees up our driveway when we first moved in but due to needing to move one of the paddock fences put it on hold and concentrated instead on the garden immediately around the house.

I think the time has come to move that fence and plant away!

What tree would you plant?

Black & White

Even outside the 'shed'

I have tried to embrace colour a number of times and believe it or not each room of my previous home was painted a different colour, but I keep coming back to Black & White!

There is just something sophisticated, elegant and timeless about it both inside and out.

I have carried this theme across to my shop in case you haven't noticed!

A beautiful facade!

I've had this one on file for quite a while now.

There's just something about an all green garden that I simply love!

The weather here is beautiful today. The boys are back at school and kindy after a great few weeks holiday and some much needed family time.

I have lots of orders to send, so out to the shed I go!

Our New Arrival!

A few weeks ago we headed over to Kangaroo Island to pick up our gorgeous new family member Harvey the Border Collie.

He is a very good puppy so far and the boys are absolutely smitten!
Tommy is cuddling him as I write.

The Dining Room - Before & After

I came across this photo of the dining room when we first moved in nearly 5 years ago.

What a difference the painted table, mirror, new chairs and prints have made!

So many people thought we were silly to build a formal dining room but I am so glad we did, it does get used quite a lot!

The weather on the Yorke Peninsula has been absolutley beautiful this week!
I love opening up the french doors and letting the fresh air in.
Have a wonderful weekend all!

Friday, August 19, 2011

Once again, sorry for the time between posts. It seems my New Post toolbar has decided to stop loading forever! I have changed back to the old version and here I am!
Last Friday we set off to Sydney for four fantastic days.
Friday afternoon involved a spot of shopping followed by a delicious dinner with friends.
Saturday Paul and I parted ways and after a dodgy cab ride I arrived at the amazing Coco Republic Design School - to attend the Masterclass Colour for Interiors
(whilst Paul cruised the harbour in a tinny!)
It was everything I had expected and more. The purpose built classroom was the perfect setting to learn about colour perception and attributes and to complete mood boards and total colour schemes.
Whilst I already knew a lot of the 'theory' of the course from my previous studies it was a great experience to be in working classroom, with a brilliant teacher so experienced in the field. We completed practical tasks with the facilities and materials required all on hand. I also had the opportunity to meet some wonderful and interesting people.
I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone!
Of course the visit to Coco would not be complete without a visit to the showroom, which was totally stunning!!!
Saturday night we dined at Bel Mondo at The Rocks. The atmosphere, view, service and 5 course degustation with matching wines was amazing and the perfect dinner experience with my favourite dish of the night being Chef Andy Balls Sauteed Scallops with nicoise vegetables, roast capsicum puree & mizuna leaf. Favourite wine if the night was the 2009 Patina, Scandalous Riesling, Orange NSW.
Sunday Paul ran the 14km City To Surf. Somewhat harder than the City to Bay with its challenging hills! The 85,000 people atmosphere was exciting and gave a huge sense of community spirit. With over $3 500 000 raised for charity every participant should be proud.
Lunch at The Italian Village Sunday afternoon was just what my runner needed with its beautiful waterfront location and harbour views.
Monday Morning we walked from the City to Bills at Darlinghurst. The corn fritters were out of this world!!!
Later we caught the ferry over to Manly on the 18 degree sunny day it was the perfect end to our Sydney long weekend.

Rose Garden 2010
2011 - still very much a work in progress!!!

Now my garden is in no way finished but sometimes it is good to reflect on all you have done.

The older parts of our garden are approximately 5 years old, other parts only a few years old.

When we built our house there was next to nothing surrounding it. We started by planting hedges and trees to get the basic structure of the garden established.

I drew a plan for our garden one bored day whilst we were living in the UK for a short while. The house was not built at this stage but the plans were drawn and I knew the placement of the house in the yard.

Surprisingly the plan has not changed!

What has changed are the plants used. It has been a case of a little trial and error as I am not used to the soil and climate here. My principal is lots of mass plantings, not lots of variety, hedges for structure, lots of lawn and trees.

I am excited to see what the garden looks like in another 5 years!
