French Doors

What is it about French Doors? They seem to scream at you .............'open me up!'

We have a five sets of French doors accross the front of the house, two sets side by side at the back and four sets internally.

As I walked Ollie down the driveway to the school bus this morning it was freezing but as soon as it warm enough I opened up the back doors!

They dont have fly screens as I think this completely ruins the look but somehow we manage. I am looking forward to many a spring day and summer evening sitting outside at the back table with the doors open! x

Can I assume these photos are of your home Letitia? What a beautiful outlook.
I must admit, one thing I miss about NZ is not having to have flyscreens and be able to fling open the doors and windows and really feel connected to the outdoors. I couldn't do that here, not so much because of the flies but all the other large crawling, flying things including huntsmans (*shudder*).
Hope you're having a lovely week:o)

French doors make my heart swoon. We have plans to one day bust out our dining room window and replace it with frenchies. Yours are very beautiful...I love that they have solid bottoms. Are they custom?

Thanks Simone! Off to check out your blog! Not custom, but took a bit of sourcing to find the style I wanted that wasn't all glass.

Hi Teesh,
The blog is looking really great! Lovely photos, your garden is really coming along. Looks like you have a few new things in that room (is that why you turned the table around?)
Chair Up, don't know if it will work over there, but here in the UK, a friend swears by placing chestnuts near windows etc and has worked that into to her room decorations to keep the creepy crawlies at bay :)

You know I would have to say that french doors are probably like the romantic comedy of the home....they make us girls regardless of your style smile with our heart....You must smile every time you open them up....great choice.

I LOVE your style Letitia. We have French Doors too and I agree that they look better without the fly screens but I go berserk if one gets into the house. So many of them here in QLD so the screens stay. I have been thinking of painting our doors white though and you have convinced me that it's the way to go. What to do first?

Those doors are pretty charming. Like windows, they can provide a lot of light during the day. They look beautiful as well, making them very desirable.
