A year ago our home graced the pages on SA Life Magazine.
The past year has been pretty full on (as if it wasn't enough so before).
Since shutting 'the shed' I have been overwhelmed with the growth of the online store. When I embarked on the journey I never thought it would end up as a full time job!
Like many other mums out there I am still struggling with the balance of being a mother and working full time. But I am exceptionally grateful to be able to work from home. The flexibility to constantly reshuffle my working hours to suit as activities with the boys changes each week is brilliant.
I have always wanted to commit time to reading or helping at school and this still remains one of my favourtie things to do each week. I am very lucky that my boys attend a fabulous little country school where I have known many of the kids since birth and I love seeing all of them developing in to great little people each week.
There still seems to be a misconception that when you work from home you don't actually work, but this is one I am hoping some will wake up to one day! Perhaps some people are a little conservative or old fashioned or maybe they don't realise the power of the internet yet?
If any of you out there have any juggling tips please send them my way. I am still have a lot to learn!
I'm glad that your business is a success. I am also working at home and I run my 2 boutiques just using the computer and my cellphone. I just go there once a week to check up on what's going on and delegate a few new job/instructions. My priority is taking care of my son and husband and our home which is already a handful.
ReplyDeleteI guess time management and making lists of things to do will help a lot because there are times that we forgot what we have to do first especially when we have lots of things to do... I don't just rely on my memory I make lists at least most of the time.
I think it sounds like you are doing a great job, I guess the only advice I can offer is to schedule your day like you would if you we're in an office, so no washing between. 9 and 3!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood advice ladies! I am a list person so will make more of these. I also need to force myself to turn off the iPad and computer at night more often! xx
ReplyDeleteI used to say to the kids if the door to my home office was closed, the ONLY time they should open it was if they could see smoke billowing from somewhere in the house or blood flowing freely from one of their brothers!
ReplyDeleteMillie xx
I wish I could work from home. I've just gone back to work after 2 years of mat leave. My daughter starts school this year, and I have always looked forward to helping in the classroom.... I would absolutely love to start my own online store and hopefully build it up to be successful enough to a point where I could just work from home.. I just don't really know where to start!!! Congratulations on your success. I hope that you are able to find that balance :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to be able to run a thriving business in the country and be flexible to give valuable time to your boys... Enjoy ! Work/life balance is never easy for anyone just something to constantly evaluate, tweak and change. just like being intentional and disciplined with anything I am reminded to think of my week as a time budget of 168 hours and then ask the questions how will I spend it?
ReplyDeleteWhen I tell people I work from home they actually thought I'm a plain housewife! I'm a work from home mum too. I'm from http://www.housenet.com.au/ - a social media site that's all about houses/homes in AU. We are about to release an online renovation tool soon. Have you tried something like this? Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI made $20 for each 20 minute survey!
ReplyDeleteGuess what? This is exactly what big companies are paying me for. They need to know what their customer base needs and wants. So large companies pay millions of dollars each month to the average person. In return, the average person, like myself, fills out surveys and gives them their opinion.
